Stretched Thin

Pros

Peer level employees are very knowledgeable, hard-working, and are friendly. Potential to be so much better has been identified and solutions have been presented. You will gain a lot of experience here because resources are stretched extremely thin. You'll have to be a master of all.

Cons

Senior Management and above allow and enable a very negative environment. Promotions are given to known bullies across several departments. Hard work is rewarded with additional workload to compensate for the downsizing of people (or the positions that are never replaced when someone was lucky enough to get out!) and your resources will never be increased (most likely, resources will be reduced but the expectations will be over the top). People, resources, and departments are stretched to counter productive levels. Raises are not on par with cost of living increases, bonuses never get close to being paid out at the percentage you have in your plan, and if you do get a promotion...the increase in pay is laughable. Talent retention is not a priority or even a care to the company. The perception of many is that upper management views employees as very replaceable.

Toxic Atmosphere

Pros

Remote work is the only positive.

Cons

After Wesco acquired Anixter, the culture went down hill - fast. Several Wesco department heads quickly moved to replace all Anixter employees. Institutional knowledge was gone, with little regard for how those that were left behind to figure out how things were or should be done. There was little to no respect for the employees who had been with the company for any extended period of time. The overall attitude was to "rebuild" but now several departments are so dysfunctional that nothing gets done. No light at the end of the tunnel. HR has been no help, even after reporting hostile workplace multiple times.

Pros

Manager is not a micro manager. Computer programs archaic but getting better. PTO policy seems competitive.

Cons

Anixter got bought by Wesco and things have gone downhill ever since. Overwork, continuously added job duties while outsourcing entire departments. Employs around 18k people but has terrible health insurance with high deducutibles. Not sure why they cant negotiate better premiums with so many employees. Benefits seem to decrease each year while costs escalate. Raises are a measily 1.5% which doesnt even cover inflation. Bonus structure has been revamped so you can earn a higher bonus on sales, but they have made goals virtually unattainable. Everything they disguise as a new benefit sounds good on the outside, but once you read the fine print, you realize you are getting hood-winked. They give you so much work that there is no way to get it all done unless you work overtime but they wont approve overtime. Managers dont care how much overtime you work just as long as you dont record it so they dont have to pay you for it. Processes change daily and each new process just creates more work for the employee. More steps to get anything done. Common sense is sacrificed, making processes more inefficient by making employee fill out a form for every little thing you do. Things that used to be requested in an email and handled immediately can take days or even weeks to get done. All the while, employee moral becomes lower with more work, miniscule pay increases, the fact that Wescos policy is to rate everyone as "needs improvement", because to them, everyone needs improvement and I guess that justifies their sad pay increases. This policy seems like a slap in the face after working your tail off. Shows that they dont actually consider their employees to be their greatest asset as they say they do. I also find it interesting that most of the 5 star reviews I read were entered by management who happen to have much more job satisfaction due to the fact that the company is experiencing record profits and the brass are the only ones to share in the actual bonuses.
