Lack of staff perks (no staff discount). Checkout staff get a box of chocolates or movie tickets at Christmas whereas staff in other departments get a full-on spread put on that is paid for by the boss. Long hours. Minimum wage. Being made to feel guilty for calling in sick (being questioned by supervisors who don't have medical degrees but seem to be able to tell if you are really sick or not) or for going home sick. Very little chance for promotion. 10 minute morning/afternoon tea breaks that should really be 15 minute breaks. No acknowledgement for staff who have worked there for 10+ years.
