Toxic mental warfare

Pros

Majority of the staff besides management are really nice & respectful.

Cons

Near minimum wage salary. Constant lies about pay reviews / salary increases (carrot on the stick) Entire company is run by a family which is very incompetent & toxic . Mother is HR which leads to giant bias as the majority of the issues stem from the CEO talking in hyperbole's & back tracking on everything he says. The company is quoted in several articles talking about "unlimited holiday pay" & "unlimited sick leave" which is so far from the truth. Expect to be worked like a dog & be paid in pennies Continual staff meetings about "raising salaries" but nothing happening over almost 2 years worth of these meetings. Raises given out like it's just a popularity contest. Several staff members trapped on Work Visa's as the pay isn't nearly enough to apply for residency. No structure or policies in place, basically the rules get made up & changed as management feels like. CEO is far more concerned about his image then the actual well being of his staff. General condescending tone from management leading to the majority of staff fearing to speak up in case of ridicule.

Pros

Some great talent and personalities in the environment COO is well connected in the NZ gaming sector and genuinely advocates for the industry Good opportunity to learn how NOT to run a game development studio Location

Cons

Incompetent management and production environment Management appear incapable of understanding the needs of staff - and what's required of them as a manager CEO exhibits narcissistic and sociopathic tendencies to a concerning degree - to the point where he needs to be supervised almost permanently by his COO Low wages, even by industry standards Poor hiring strategies that lead to bottlenecks throughout production Brown nosing appears to go further than charisma, work ethic or ability Poor retention strategy seems to be deliberate to assist in reducing overheads between 'projects' Contract allows for short notice redundancy with no compensation should the CEO follow his already well known and documented modus operandi of selling proto-types - CEO highlights this by reminding staff everyone will be made redundant if necessary

Pros

Don’t be fooled by any reviews above 1 star, they are all from the brand new Auckland branch that hasn’t known the CEO for long enough to make a fair assessment. Flexible hours.

Cons

Apart from hiring his family, the CEO has hired his buddies into key roles across the company. Even if they have no skills or experience in their roles. Dooming projects. The CEO is a habitual liar. Some staff say he has actual mental health problems. Others say he's intentionally trolling the staff. CEO is only interested in making prototypes to sell to investors. The moment any real work starts on a project he will leave then later pull funding. The Auckland branch are about to find this out the hard way. Right after the CEO feels like their prototype has come far enough that he can't milk investors further. Financially there are zero perks, paid company events, bonuses, profit sharing.
