Pros

flexible working hours. Nice settings

Cons

A shocking place. Managers bullying employees, HR useless to defend employees (recently the VC sent a newsletter talking about bullying which has a high occurrence at the university). If you love dirty politics, people trashed disgustingly, laws ignored, go for it, this is the right place for you. Otherwise stay away, there are many employee friendly businesses in town, this is not one of them.

Poorly managed, with faculty inbreeding

Pros

The "good" thing about Massey's College of Business are the low expectations of achievement. You can, and many do, glide through the life of mediocrity. Palmerston North has cheap housing, but the Auckland campus is in the middle of one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in New Zealand. People can be genuinely nice, as is the norm in New Zealand.

Cons

It is a regular occurrence that people get promoted based on whom they know (the best way is to be a buddy with the vice-chancellor). While some faculty are genuinely good in research, promotion is basically based on the number of publications, and the expectation is to publish in C journals. Funding for conference travel and research is severely limited, even by New Zealand standards. There is a general race to the bottom in the quality of the teaching, funneled by the need to capture an ever-increasing share of an ever-declining pool of foreign students. This is done by lowering standards, so much so that the Chinese university officials visiting other NZ universities to establish exchange programmes have asked "You don't let everyone pass like Massey, do you?".

Pros

There aren't any that I can think of.

Cons

If you are good at figuring everything out by yourself and don't mind spending a lot of time working through your confusion or being frustrated; if you don't mind being patronised or ignored when you ask for help; if you don't mind working with out-of-date study resources with grammatical and spelling errors all through them, inconsistencies in language, inconsistencies between papers, and you love arrogant staff with no empathy who don't want to hear anything is wrong at all and will penalise you for complaining but ensuring your grades drop, then this is the university for you! You have been warned.
