Pros
Some of the staff are awesome. The place is constantly in crisis with the never-ending razor gangs laying off staff in an effort to save money, so a lot of the staff have that wartime London blitz mentality, keep calm and carry on and support one another. That was undoubtedly the best thing about working there.
Cons
No support and no future or job security, the company seems intent on stripping the regional offices of skill and staff and has no interest in regaining the respect of local readers. Managers play favourites. Constant technology failures. While the company preaches about inclusion and ethics, the treatment of staff tells a different story. It's easy to say the words in an effort to look good to the public, but actions show otherwise. Sadly, the high hopes I had for local ownership after the company was bought from its Aussie-based owners have failed to eventuate: the bosses are every bit as invisible and disinterested as the Aussie overlords were. You only hear from them when summoned to attend one of the dreaded change proposals.
