Management treat you like children, their tone of voice is often like the managers on the show 'rostered on'. Everybody pretends to be happy, but it is clear that they are all dead inside. The worst part is that many of the other staff see themselves as watchdogs, they love to tell you off for making the slightest mistake whenever they can. The walls have ears, they will snitch and tell on you at a moments notice. This is actively encouraged by management. It is common for staff to try and micro-manage each other, which just works people up and creates a stressful environment. I have never seen somebody break down in another job, even in high stress fast-food jobs. At bunnings I saw people break down on a regular basis, they would often be crying and in some cases even scream at management or other staff. This kind of unstable behaviour is something you can expect in a toxic environment. The uniforms make you look like a child. Other staff and management are constantly judging your adherence to the uniform code. Customers do not take you seriously and are often very rude, which I believe is partly due to the uniform. They even tell you off for using the word 'staff', for some reason it was deemed negative and must be replaced with the words 'team member'. If you are thinking about applying for a job at bunnings, DO NOT do it. Trust me you will be so much better off at a minimum wage retail job with a better work environment than working at bunnings. The extra $2 an hour is not worth all the annoying nonsense you have to deal with.
