      Passionate about Open Source, lacking in career advancement

      Pros

      Lots of engineers, and Directors that are passionate about Open Source Software. Opportunity to attend conferences at company's expense. Very little bureaucracy, and using Agile methodologies. Support for families, flexi-time, free fruit, and beer o'clock.

      Cons

      Lack of Team Leads in some teams, which can cause the direct manager having little contact with engineers as they're busy managing projects/systems. Lack of career advancement to a high level(one level jump is possible)

      Pros

      Catalyst is a company where employees time is valued. There are a large number of projects and clients and the company works hard to get people fit with the roles they want to pursue. Employees are encouraged to push new technologies. Everyone runs Linux, most people care about technology and talking to other staff is insightful and positive. There are also regular drink nights, free fruit and regular presentations about both company and personal projects.

      Cons

      The company uses a lot of open source technology to create closed source software. They do contribute back to some projects, but there are no specific rules about which licensing to support. Some technology is antiquated because of lack of software in the open source space for some of the things they try to accomplish.

      Pros

      Technical people with a strong interest in open source might like it. Beers on a Friday. Some brilliant individuals hidden away.

      Cons

      Does not understand Agile. Does not give employees enough opportunity to contribute to open source projects. No understanding of design, branding or marketing: developer driven. Little or no employee development.
