      Advisor, Operational Excellence Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Rio Tinto in May 2026

      Interview

The interview left me with concerns about both the role clarity and the overall candidate experience. During the interview, the interviewer joined late and appeared to be chewing candy throughout the discussion, which came across as unprofessional. The interview also ended rather abruptly without a proper close or opportunity for further discussion. Based on the conversation, I found it difficult to understand how transformation initiatives were structured and delivered within the team. The role appeared to involve identifying and solving operational problems on an ad hoc basis, but there was limited clarity around project governance, prioritisation, team structure, or how initiatives were overseen and executed. This differed significantly from my expectations of an operational excellence or transformation function. As a result of both the role discussion and the interview experience, I withdrew my application immediately after the interview and provided feedback to the Talent Acquisition team via email. While I did not necessarily expect a detailed response, I did not receive any acknowledgement of my withdrawal or feedback over the following month. Overall, I did not feel the role was a good fit for my experience and career goals, and the interview experience reinforced that decision.
