I had 2 interviews, with a HR person and a hiring manager.
Hiring manager asked me about the experience how I handle difficult customer and what technical skills I can use.
The atmosphere was not bad during the interview, however, they stop communicating with me after that.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Databricks
Interview
The interview process was one of the most demeaning experiences I've ever had. It was clear from the get-go that interviewer was looking down on me before I even began to speak. I'm not sure if this was because I'm a woman or my ethnicity or some other reason.
He would constantly ignore my responses, and shake his head "No, that's NOT correct" to anything I said, then I would try to come up with several alternative solutions to which he would once again declare "NO." without providing any clarity as to what he was actually asking for. Eventually, I was giving 7 different suggestions all of which he hated. Then I suggested an idea for a hypothetical feature Databricks could implement, and aligned my response with research from other competitors. He yelled "THAT'S NOT HOW DATABRICKS WORKS," and looked absolutely disgusted at me, as if I had the audacity to think I'd be capable enough to get the job.
Then, ultimately, he'd repeat back what I said originally as the "correct response". I kid you not, this happened multiple times throughout the interview, and I was nearly in tears by the end of this humiliation ritual.
He asked me once to explain a technical concept or project from my classes, and when I began describing an app development project, he got upset and yelled that "that's not a technical project", which is just patently false. Developing a full-stack application is 100% a technical project and it really seemed like he was just going out of his way to make the interview as terrible as possible.
Despite having great interviews for the other part of the process, I was ultimately rejected just a day later, and I'm convinced he made sure of it.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe a technical project you worked on
Describe a technical concept from one of your classes
I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter for an initial call. My background and experience were not aligned with the role, so we did not proceed to the next round.
Unfortunately, the interview experience was not very positive. The recruiter was late to the scheduled call, and the communication style felt somewhat one-sided and pushy rather than collaborative. I would have appreciated a more balanced and respectful conversation.
