How's your experience been with recruiters?
I had a final-round interview last week where the team lead asked me to describe a time I had a conflict with a manager and how I resolved it. I gave a textbook, diplomatic answer, but what I wanted to say was that my last manager was a micromanager who took credit for my work and then laid me off via Zoom. It’s exhausting having to rewrite your own career history to make every toxic workplace sound like a valuable learning opportunity. Do you think anyone actually buys into the answers we’re forced to repeat in these interviews?
Sometimes I beat myself up about not having a job yet. I start wondering if it’s all my fault. Maybe I’m not applying enough. Maybe I’m not networking enough. Maybe I’m not trying hard enough. Some days I can separate my worth from my situation. Other days not so much. Has anyone else ever struggled with blaming themselves when things aren’t working out?
Many of us have navigated the hardship of layoffs, and I’m curious to hear your experiences. My first layoff came with a 45-day notice, while my second experience as a contractor was much more deceptive—they claimed the system was down for 30 days before eventually letting us go. In your opinion, what is a fair and ethical amount of notice for a company to provide when conducting layoffs? Also anyone else have stories regarding past or current layoffs?
Genuine question... When you struggle to focus, procrastinate, or start important tasks, how do you know whether it's procrastination, burnout, anxiety, ADHD or just being human? For those who have ADHD, was it self-diagnosed at first or professionally diagnosed? And another thing I've been wondering... Do we sometimes rush to label every struggle or do labels actually help people understand themselves better?
How many times have you rewritten your résumé this year? Has it actually helped? I've recently started having ChatGPT update my resume with every posting based on the job description I'm applying for and I'm hoping that will help get through the ATS if companies are using it. We'll see.
Mixed. Have had some great interactions that have been productive. Then also experienced ghosting after THEY approached ME. So frustrating! With how difficult the job search already is, I can’t imagine somebody adding more hassle to it.
YES! That one drives me crazy. If you were that busy, why are you still sending out messages? Focus on somebody else because I’m done with you, now 😂
Personally I've been ghosted to many times. Sometimes I'm tempted to reach out and follow up but I hold myself.
